Youth Scramble For Beer After Trucks Overturns in Nyeri

Youth from Mathira in Nyeri on Saturday enjoyed free beer after a lorry overturned at a black spot.

The beer truck which was heading to Meru from Nairobi lost control at Mahiga-ini Springs after an oncoming Nissan Matatu tried to overtake another vehicle and overturned.

An eye witness, Joseph Muiruri, said the truck avoided to hit the Nissan matatu which was carrying passengers to Nairobi.

He said youth from the area arrived immediately and instead of helping the driver and his turn boy who were injured, started looting the vehicle.

Many of them disappeared into the bushes and maize plantation with cartons of alcoholic drinks which included spirits, wines, Vice Roy and gins.

Police later arrived but the youth refused to stop the looting insisting that it was manna from above.

Police had a rough time controlling the youth and even cocked guns to scare them away.

One youth was heard lamenting how he had run for over two kilometers to the scene only to be blocked from the feast by police.

Another vehicle later arrived and took away the alcohol before the wreckage was towed away.
